Equine Assisted Psychotherapy at Misty Meadows

Equine assisted therapy (EAP) is an experiential form of therapy that incorporates horses as dynamic partners in mental health treatment. Unlike traditional therapy, EAP encourages non-verbal communication, problem-solving, and self-discovery through direct connections and interactions with horses.

There is usually no riding involved in equine-assisted psychotherapy. Rather it harnesses the power of relationship with the horse as a path to self-discovery and growth. Activities can include observation, grooming, feeding, leading, and ground exercises.

EAP is typically a team effort where a mental health professional pairs with an equine specialist to create a safe environment, empowering clients to connect with horses as a means to work through challenging emotional issues, develop new coping skills and foster deeper self-awareness.
